About Kettlebells

Kettlebells, or ‘givya’ in Russian, originated in Russia in the early 1700’s. They were initially used to weigh goods at markets but farmers started to use them to show off their physical capabilities and more than likely to try and impress members of the opposite sex. The early 1900’s saw their popularity soar in Russia and their popularity continues to grow all around the world today.

They resemble a ball with a suitcase handle attached. Different to dumbbells which have even weight distribution, a kettlebell’s center of mass is not on the handle and when performing exercises, their center of gravity will shift and you will have to fight the momentum it can gain. They will provide a functional workout helping you prepare for activities that are undertaken everyday. This is often referred to as a ‘Real world workout’.

They may look intimidating and confusing when looked upon, but their no-nonsense approach to training can stimulate your muscles in new ways increasing muscle mass, definition, joint health, mobility, flexibility, core and grip strength, conditioning and can burn fat and calories and improve your posture.
